Fraudsters Tried to Steal Graceland!
I’ve written previously about title fraud and how thieves can steal your property. But one group went even further. An investment firm tried to foreclose on Elvis Presley’s home, Graceland, in Memphis, Tennessee.
Foreclose on Graceland?
As was widely reported via CNN (read this, and this) and other news agencies recently, an investment firm claimed that the late Lisa Marie Presley had used Graceland as collateral for a loan and then failed to repay before she passed away. They were using this as the basis to foreclose on Graceland. Spoiler alert: that was a lie, there was no loan. But they almost got away with it. Luckily Elvis’ granddaughter, actor Riley Keough, was able to stop the scam, but not without getting lawyers involved. It’s crazy that this can happen, but it does!
Protect Your Property
If this can almost happen to Elvis, you can bet it can happen to you. Title fraud is real. Usually they target land or abandoned properties, but it can happen to your home, too. If you own property of any type in Georgia, sign up for the Filing Activity Notification System. This is a FREE service offered to property owners which will alert you if any action is filed in the Superior Court in Georgia. With this notice, you can take action before it's too late.
